Thomas Hilbert

Composer of electroacoustic music and sound artist, Thomas Hilbert's artistic practice primarily revolves around physical exploration. An aesthetics bordering on telluric forces, experienced as a shared exploration of the collective imagination. A liminal journey where movement holds the reins of the metamorphoses ascribed to the material. Sound as a living practice of transformation. A listening composition where perception is based on the sound object and its extension in a visual acuity.

Compositeur de musique électroacoustique et artiste sonore, la pratique artistique de Thomas Hilbert se meut avant tout sur le terrain de l’exploration physique. Une esthétique flirtant avec les forces telluriques, vécue en partage d’une investigation de l’imaginaire collectif. Un parcours liminal où le mouvement tient les rênes des métamorphoses imputées au matériau. Le son comme pratique vivante de la transformation. Une composition de l’écoute où la perception se campe sur l’objet sonore et son prolongement dans une acuité plastique.

Fluage / 2008

Opus#1 composed in the studios of the Espace Pierre Schaeffer at the Toulouse Conservatory in March 2008.
Fluage (creep) is a phenomenon of deformation variation, depending on time and pressure levels, which occurs when a state of instantaneous or constant stress is applied to a material...The observation of this phenomenon clearly embodies my composing intents. The dissonance of the long frames being prolonged after the instantaneity of primary events testifies to an allegory of active energies that unfold within a moving material.

Le fluage est un phénomène de variation de déformation, en fonction du temps et du niveau de pression, qui intervient lorsqu'on applique un état de contrainte instantané ou constant à un matériau...
L’observation de ce phénomène incarne clairement mes intentions d’écriture. La dissidence des longues trames se perpétuant après l’instantanéité d’événements primaires témoigne d’une allégorie des énergies actives se développant au sein d’un matériau mouvant.
