Lydia Debeer

Lydia Debeer (1992) is an Antwerp based artist. After graduating Fine Arts she was selected for two international expositions for young Talent, Marres Currents #2 and New Now. She continued her journey with a two-year post-graduate at the HISK. She was a laureate of Art’ Contest 2016 and was supported by the Flemish government in 2019 to continue her research through a short-term development grant. In between, she enjoyed a stay at the artist residencies of Hangar in Barcelona and Gasworks in London.

Lydia Debeer (née en 1992) est une artiste basée à Anvers. Après avoir obtenu son diplôme des Beaux-Arts, elle est sélectionnée pour deux expositions internationales dédiées aux jeunes talents, Marres Currents #2 et New Now. Elle poursuit son parcours avec un diplôme post universitaire au HISK. Elle est lauréate de l’Art' Contest en 2016 et reçoit le soutien financier du gouvernement flamand en 2019, sous forme de bourse de développement à court terme, pour continuer ses recherches. Durant cette période, elle est également en résidence artistique à Hangar (Barcelone) et Gasworks (Londres).

Tremble Garden / 2012

For Tremble Garden, Debeer started with making recordings of a piano standing outside in the garden of her parents. Almost everything was ruined except for some strings in the resonance box that were exposed to rain, insects and plants. The resonant sounds of those strings form the basis of the first part of her composition. The second part contrasts greatly with the first part, focusing on the physical sensations of tone. This results in a very visual and immersive soundscape.

Pour Tremble Garden, Debeer est partie de l’enregistrement d’un piano dans le jardin de ses parents. La quasi-totalité de l’instrument était en piteux état, hormis quelques cordes de la caisse de résonance exposées à la pluie, aux insectes et à la végétation. Les sons résonnants de ces cordes forment la base de la première partie de sa composition. La deuxième partie contraste fortement avec la première, se concentrant sur les sensations physiques du son. Il en résulte un paysage sonore très visuel et immersif.
